Guru Pújá is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 October 4 in Patna, India. This discourse is the fourth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 3.[1]

Synopsis

That Guru, that expression of Parama Brahma that dispels all your spiritual darkness is Parama Brahma. That is, Parama Brahma exhibits Himself in the form of Guru just to dispel your clouds of ignorance and spiritual slumber. “Tasmae Shrii Gurave namah” – “to that Guru I offer my Prańáma.”

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

In this discourse Anandamurti explains the meaning of Gu'ru Puja. Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that the Guru is Brahma, ubiquitous and transcendent. Jiivas (unit beings) want to come in contact with that Infinite Entity, and for that purpose He manifests Himself in the form of Guru. Anandamurti then explains that the Guru uses His shalaka (stick) to wake up spiritual knowledge in those struck with darkness and slumber. Anandamurti goes on explaining that Guru is the expression of Supreme Consciousness; He is Visnu (all pervading), He is Maheshvara (has the power of control over all manifestations), He is Parama Brahma (the witness of all witnesses). Salutations we offer to Guru, and to Guru we surrender.[1]
