PROUT in a Nutshell (Parts 1 to 21) is a series of books in 21 volumes published for the first time on 1987 in India by the philosopher and social reformer Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar aka Shrii Shrii Anandamurti (1921–1990).[note 2] Several volumes of the series have been published in Bengali and translated into other languages including Hindi.[note 3]

To establish lasting unity in human society the spiritual sentiment is indispensable. .... In 1959 the author first propounded the socio-economic theory PROUT, an acronym for Progressive Utilization Theory. Over a period of thirty years Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar elaborated this theory in great detail, giving numerous talks on related subjects as ethics, history, economics, culture, sociology, philology, politics and linguistics. This series is a collection of various speeches on PROUT given by the author on several occasions and at different times, grouped together into one large collection of 21 volumes. Several discourses of this series are also present on other Sarkar's books.
Martin Haig[note 4] in his article on education for a sustainable future, explains some of the key concepts of Sarkar's Prout theory like Cooperatives and Economic Democracy, quoting in particular this books series when mentioning the "five fundamentals principles" of PROUT.[3]
