Psychic Development and Karma is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti in Patna, India. The discourse was delivered in English on the morning of 1978 October 8. This discourse is the eighth chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 3.^[1]

Synopsis

Karma Brahmeti karma bahu kurviita. We see that whatever action is done for the service of humanity or for spiritual progress involves change. And suppose that, at one time, your "I"-ness was like an animal's. Later it is like a human being's – and so progressively will one day become like a devatá's, a divine being's, and will finally merge in Paramátmá (Supreme Soul). In this process also there is movement, there is Karma bahu kurviita.

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that every person by birth engages in a struggle for physical existence. Later, when spiritual thirst is aroused, people start their spiritual quest to realize God. In this stage, they are called dvija (having a second birth). He then explains that in this second stage of development, people become engaged in action (karma). Benevolent action enhances spiritual development and progress. Anandamurti goes on saying that when one finally receives tantric initiation, eventually the goal of Supreme Consciousness is attained. The spiritual aspirant becomes bráhmana (one with God).^[1]
