Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

(Tumi) Ucchala priiti hiyára sárathi
Madhurimá mákhá kuvalay
Jyotsná nishiithe ná gáoyá giitite
Mana májhe jágá kishalay

Tomár dyuti je ameya apár
Tomár priiti je bhuvanera sár
Tomár hásye dhará je lásye
Lalita nrtye náce asamay

Priiti kajjal dáo go áṋkhite
Jiṋánáiṋjana shaláká haite
Tomár parashe tava sudhárase
Dáo more nava paricay

You are surging love, heart's charioteer,
A blue lotus sweetness-smeared,
The song unsung on a moonlit night,
A tender shoot rising in the mind.

Your splendor is great beyond measure,
Your fondness is the essence of this world.
With Your laughter, with Your lásya,[nb 2]
Hard times dance in Lalit Nrtya.[nb 3]

On my eyes You apply love's collyrium,
With the stick of enlightenment.
By Your touch and Your ambrosial stream,
You show me Your identity.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Lásya (লাস্য) is a gentle dance that conveys the softer, more feminine characteristics in both women and men.
  3. ^ Lalita means "graceful" or "elegant". Lalita Nrtya is a dance created by Shiva's wife, Parvati. It is largely based on mudras, symbolic gestures. The dance is typically associated with the practice of kiirtana, which expresses blissful surrender to the Supreme. Other names for the dance are Lalita Lásya and Lalita Mármika (mármika signifying the voice of innermost self).
