Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Calamán ei dharitriite
Járá esechilo tárá cale geche
Táder carań cihna rayeche
Dhúlir pare ár man májhe

Kichui vyartha nay ei dharańiir
Mukher hási ár vyathár ánkhiniir
Duye niye dhárá bay jiivana nadir
Kabhu maru májhe kabhu rúperi sáje

Járá cale geche áche tomára práńe
Tomáre ghire náce mukta mane
Tumi lokáshray bhávátiita vismay[nb 2]
Sabár marme tava mádhuri báje[nb 3]

On this moving earth,
all those who came, went away.
their footmarks are left on the muddy path
and within mind. nothing of this earth is waste.
whether it is smile of the face
or tears of pain. taking both together
is the flow of the river of life,
sometimes in desert
and sometimes with decoration of beauty.
those who have gone, they are still present
in Your creation, dancing around you
with free mind. you are shelter of the worlds,
beyond thought, embodiment of consciousness.
in the core of all your sweetness exists.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Both the Second Bengali Edition and the audio rendition give this word as cinmay, although the Sargam is consistent as vismay. As there seems no clear reason for the change, the original lyrics are retained.
  3. ^ Though both the audio rendition and the Sargam give this word as báje, the Second Bengali Edition replaces it with ráje. Again, there seems no clear reason for the change, and so the original lyrics are retained.
