এই অপরূপ লীলা লুকোচুরি খেলা
কেন তাহা নাহি বুঝি গো

আমার সুখের শেষ নাহি যে
তোমায় পেলাম এত কাছে
(আমি) হারাই হারাই সদা ভয় পাই
কেন পাই তাহা নাহি জানি
ভাবিবো না ভাবি আরো বেশী ভাবি
কেন ভাবি তাহা নাহি জানি

আমি যুগ যুগ ধরি' বসে' আছি জাগি'
প্রাণের প্রদীপ জ্বেলে' (মোর)
মনেরই ডানা মেলে' মোর
সম্মুখে এসে' দাঁড়াও গো হেসে'
মধুর চরণ ফেলে' (তব)
তব রাতুল চরণ ফেলে'

আছো কবরীবেণীতে কালো ডোর হয়ে
কালোয় কালোয় মিশে' গো
মোর কপোলের কালো তিলে গো
রন্ধ্রে রন্ধ্রে মিশে' গো (মোর)

You are in the chignon under ribbon black,
Like ebony woven into black!
You are in the kohl on eyes and in forehead's bindi;
You are close, but I don't see.
Strange is this liila, a game of hide-and-seek;
Why it is like that, I cannot conceive!

My happiness is unending;
I got You so near.
To be reft, bereaved... ever I get fear;
Why I get so, I don't know.
When I think I won't fret, I fret all the more;
Why I worry, that I just don't know.

Alert, I have waited throughout the ages,
Flame of my life ignited,
Wings of my mind outspread.
Lo, having come You stand before me smiling,
Reposing Your honeyed feet,
Resting Your rosy feet.

You are in the chignon under ribbon black;
Into black an ebony is woven.
Oh in my cheek's black beauty mark,[nb 2]
And in every pore of mine, You're wed.

  2. ^ This could be a beauty mark or a mole. That lends symmetry to the song, bringing us back to the first verse. It also amplifies the meaning of the previous verses, especially the immediately preceding one.
