Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ádideva pashupati náo mama prańati
Namah hara hara mahádeva
Shaelashikhar hate esecho amrta srote
Sakal vyathár pralep

Tuśáramaoli giri ádesh pálan kare
Kuberer vaebhav kona mahimá ná dhare
Rajatanaganibha he sadáshiva

Mor sukh mor duhkh tumi beshii bujhe tháko
Kakhano kona kichu cáhiteo hay náko
Prárthaná arthahiin he devádideva

Shiva, first among the gods, please accept my prostration,
My obeisance to Hara, Hara Mahadeva.[nb 2]
From mountain peak You have come on stream of ambrosia,
With every hardship's balm.

The snow-crowned mount, it obeys Your command;
The wealth of Kuvera[nb 3] holds none of Your grandeur,
One with a naked body silver, oh Sadashiva.

My joy and my sorrow, You keep track of them best;
At no time whatsoever there is nothing You don't notice...
Oh Shiva, Lord of Lords, any prayer is meaningless.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ In the first two lines, we find a litany of names for Lord Shiva: Ádideva, Pashupati, Hara, and Mahádeva. Each name has significance in its place and in the overall context of this song; but only a few have been defined here. Other names or epithets of Shiva appear later in the song: Rajatanaganibha, Sadáshiva, and Devádideva.
  3. ^ The Hindu god of wealth.
