Sure laye sádhiyáchi tava sauṋgiite
Priiti samvite madhu mákhá cite
Mandrita mana mekhalá

Chande chande náci tomáre varite
Ucchalánande sudhára sarite

অজানা পথিক থামো গো খানিক
তোমায় পরাব মালা
কুসুম পরাগে স্মিত অনুরাগে
সাজায়ে এনেছি ডালা

গান গেয়ে চলিয়াছি তোমারে তুষিতে
সুরে-লয়ে সাধিয়াছি তব সঙ্গীতে
প্রীতি-সম্বিতে মধু-মাখা চিতে
মন্দ্রিত মন-মেখলা

ছন্দে ছন্দে নাচি তোমারে বরিতে
উচ্ছলানন্দে সুধার সরিতে
চাই না কিছু নিতে চাই শুধু দিতে
ভালবাসা পরাণ-ঢালা

Unknown Traveler, do pause for a moment;
Upon You a garland I will place.
Blossoms with pollen and smiling devotion
Having arrayed... I have brought my wicker tray.[nb 3]

To please You I am moving, songs a-singing,
With tunes in tempo I am practicing at Your sangeet;
For a mind honey-coated by love's awakening,
A sweetly sonorous girdle of psyche.

To choose You[nb 4] I dance in many a rhythm,
Happiness surging on a stream of ambrosia;
I don't wish to take a thing; I want but to give
Adoration, heart poured out.

  2. ^ In at least one of the audio renditions, this word is sung as kichui. However, in all of the Bangla editions, from start to finish, the word is given as simply kichu. The meaning is almost the same. Here kichu has been retained, without prejudice.
  3. ^ According to the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary, d́álá is a tray-shaped basket that typically is used for holding offerings to a deity.
  4. ^ The imagery in this song is reminiscent of the ancient Indian rite of svayamvará, whereby a girl of marriageable age selects her husband.
