I searched for you in the forest
Ever having sought Thee in forest, on mountain peak,
and on the peak of the mountain.
The day, it goes by; evening draws nigh.
Evening comes and my days pass by.
You did not give reply, my words You did not hear;
What kind of heart is Yours cannot be divined.

You did not respond nor did you listen to my feelings.
I have sought in blossom, I have sought in nectar;
I cannot understand what sort of heart you have.
I have sought in every particle of pollen.
I found not anyplace, I could not apprehend;
You did not come and say where You reside.

I searched for you in flowers,
To holy sites aplenty have I traveled;
in nectar and in every pollen of grain.
I have bathed in many lakes and streams, and the ocean.
I could not find you
I did not find peace in mind through any immersion;
nor did you appear to me.
My heart unsatisfied, the eyes only cry.
Please tell me where you are.

How many places of pilgrimages have i visited?
Finally I've understood, mid psyche I've discovered;
How many rivers and oceans have i taken holy dips in,
In a mental pore have I seen a speck of Your luster.
searching you?
In the midst of psyche only, finding You can happen;
In none of these places could i find peace of mind.
Your ray of light, it flashes in a pristine mind.
My thirsty heart keeps shedding tears.

Finally i understood and found you within my mind.
In a small corner of my mind
I have seen the spark of your divine light.

It is through a pure mind that your effulgence shines.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Arańye girishire khuṋje khuṋje tomáre
Din cale jáy sandhyá ghanáy
Sáŕá náhi dile kathá náhi shunile
Keman hrday bojhá náhi jáy

Kusume khuṋjechi madhute khuṋjechi
Paráger prati reńu reńu májhe khuṋjechi
Konkhane pái ni dharite pári ni
Tumi ese balo ni ácho kotháy

Tiirthe tiirthe kata bhramań karechi
Kata hrad nadii ságarete snána karechi
Kona avagáhane shánti pái ni mane
Atrpta hiyá shudhu áṋkhi jharáy

Avasheśe bujhechi manamájhe peyechi
Maner randhre tava jyotihkańá dekhechi
Maneri májháre páoyá jáy tomáre
Shuddha mane tava álo jhalakáy

Ever having sought Thee in forest, on mountain peak,
The day, it goes by; evening draws nigh.
You did not give reply, my words You did not hear;
What kind of heart is Yours cannot be divined.

I have sought in blossom, I have sought in nectar;
I have sought in every particle of pollen.
I found not anyplace, I could not apprehend;
You did not come and say where You reside.

To holy sites aplenty have I traveled;
I have bathed in many lakes and streams, and the ocean.
I did not find peace in mind through any immersion;
My heart unsatisfied, the eyes only cry.

Finally I've understood, mid psyche I've discovered;
In a mental pore have I seen a speck of Your luster.
In the midst of psyche only, finding You can happen;
Your ray of light, it flashes in a pristine mind.
