My abiding friend, take me and let us go
Abiding Friend, take me with.
Toward the fountain of streaming effulgence.
Toward that streaming fountain of effulgence,
Abiding Friend, take me with.

The stagnation of darkness is no longer tolerable.
No more can be borne the affliction of ignorance;
Abiding Friend, take me with.

Sing the song that will shatter my deep sleep.
Shattering my deep sleep with one song after another,
Abiding Friend, take me with.

Bandhu he niye calo is the first song of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's Prabhat Samgiita.[1][2][3] It is also known as Jyotirgiita (song of effulgence).[4]

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Bandhu he niye calo
Álor oi jharńádhárár páne
Bandhu he niye calo

Áṋdhárer vyathá ár say ná práńe
Bandhu he niye calo

Ghumer ghor bháuṋánor gáne gáne
Bandhu he niye calo

Abiding Friend, take me with.
Toward that streaming fountain of effulgence,
Abiding Friend, take me with.

No more can be borne the affliction of ignorance;
Abiding Friend, take me with.

Shattering my deep sleep with one song after another,
Abiding Friend, take me with.

Purport

This is how Sarkar himself described the meaning of the song—[4]

Paramapuruśa is the real friend. Oh Paramapuruśa, direct me unto the fountain of divine effulgence. I was slumbering in Cimmerian darkness I was an ordinary atom. But now I can no longer tolerate the staticity of darkness. Oh Paramapuruśa, sing before me the song which will arouse me from my deep slumber. Sing before me that song which will show me what is what and which is which.
