Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Cáṋd ae ákáshe bhálabásá vátáse
Ke go tumi mor páne nece áso
Bhásáiyá diyá hiyá kánana saorabhe
Ke go tumi mor páne ceye háso

Jhaŕńá dhárá áj sauṋgiite meteche
Cáṋder miśt́i hási tár pare paŕeche
Ei svapnil pariveshe ke go tumi nava veshe
Sabáike eta beshi bhálabása

Cáṋder álor ván báṋdh bheuṋge diyeche
Rajaniigandhá van kii áveshe meteche
Áj ánanda upaciyá udvela kari hiyá
Ke go tumi sudhárase sadá bháso

Yon moon is in the sky; love is in the air.
Who art Thou Who comes dancing toward me?
With the garden fragrance making my heart burst,
Who art Thou Who smiles while looking at me?

Today, rapt by music is the streaming spring,
Pon which the moon sheds her sweet smile.
In this dreamy atmosphere, Who art Thou in fresh attire,
Loving everyone so very much?

The flood of moonlight shatters boundaries;
The tuberose[nb 2] arbor is entranced.
Today, my heart brims with abounding joy;
Who art Thou Who always rides a wave of nectar?

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ The tuberose is a perennial, night-blooming plant. The Bengali name, rajaniigandhá (রজনীগন্ধা), literally means "fragrant at night". Hence, the tuberose is sometimes referred to as the "night queen" or the "mistress of the night".
