Lyrics

Gahan andhakáre vártávaha (tumi)
Áloker pratibhú tumi priya
Ámár sakal gláni saráye diye
Ámáre tomár kare nio

Tomáre ceyechi dine ráte
Jhaiṋjháprabáhe ghana kuyásháte
Tomáre peyechi soná jhará práte
Ámár hrday man bhare dio[nb 2]

Tomáre ceyechi kále kálántare
Rikta maru májhe rkśa prántare
Tomáre peyechi arúp mańiháre
Sabáre dyutir loke niye jeo

In darkness dense, You are the messenger;
My Beloved, You are the agent of splendor.
Waiving all my degradation,
Please take me, making Your own.

I have pined for You night and day,
In dense fog and pouring rain.
Now I've found You on a morn gold-dripping;
Make my heart and mind complete.

I have pined for You age after age,
In barren desert and on ancient-mountain plain.
Now I've found You in a necklace of gems unbodied;
Go on taking everyone to the realm of splendid beauty.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ The tumi that is sung at the end of this line in the audio rendition is not supported by the published Bangla book.[2] It is likely to be a mistake, as it tends to break the meter and rhyme scheme.
