Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Háriye gechi ájke ámi
Tumi patha khuṋje dáo
Ápana básá bhule gechi
Bhálabásáy bhare náo

Phul phut́eche kuiṋjavane
Kena táhá kei bá jáne
Ámára mane sauṋgopane
Diipaka ráge gán shońáo

Esechinu pathera bhule
Bhálo lágáy vanera phule
Sauṋgiivihiin ei akúle
Patheri nisháná dekháo

Lost was I today;
You let me find the way.
Forgotten was my own abode;
With love, You bear that load.

Flowers blossomed in a grove;
Why that's so, who really knows?
In my mind, in secrecy,
A song in Deepak Raag,[nb 2] You sing.

Having lost my way, I've come to You,
Attracted to Your woodland blooms.
Unaccompanied and in jeopardy,
Signs of my true path You reveal.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ According to legend, Tansen, a renowned bard in the imperial court of Akbar, could ignite oil lamps merely by singing his Diipak Raga. Hence, the Diipak Raga mentioned here is clearly not just a reference to the style of classical melody but also a metaphor for spiritual enlightenment.
