Who calls me in the language of songs?
Lord, who calls me in the language of songs?
He says, come, come, sit beside me.
He says, "Come, come, sit by my side;
Why keep away at this odd hour?
Why are you so distant at this unearthly time?"

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Hiyára májháre niirava prahare
Ke go d́eke jáy gánera bháśáy
Bale eso eso páshe baso baso
Kena dúre ácho ei abeláy

Geche kata kál rauṋiina sakála
Kata sáṋjher belá jiivane uttál
Kena ásile ná kena basile ná
Kena ná sáŕá dile je tava sáŕá cáy

Ogo dúragata e kona máyáy
Phulad́ore áji báṋdhile ámáy
Eta dine mor halo mahá dáy
E phulamálá tava parábo galáy

In the core of my heart at silent hours,[nb 2]
Lord, who calls me in the language of songs?
He says, "Come, come, sit by my side;
Why are you so distant at this unearthly time?"

Much time passed by, many a crimson dawn,
Many a radiant evening, vibrating with the surging waves of life, faded away.
Why did You not come? Why did You not sit beside me?
Why did You not respond to the call of those who longed for Your response?

O Lord, You went afar with what magic?
You bind me today with what bond of flowers?
I am baffled and do not know what I should do.
I have decided to garland You.
