Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Janmatithite nútaner srote
Nútaner álo jena pái
Chandomayer chándasikatá
Nava bháve bhare nite cái

Jáhá dibe tá duhát pete nobo
Já shońábe táhá marme rákhibo
Tomár jiivan tomákei dobo
Tava náme jena mete jái

Kaci kishalay patra hayeche
Raktimá shyámalimáy bhareche
Nava shaktite nava sámarthye
Sabár káje lágite cái

Niráshár gán gáibo ná ár
Jiivanke kabhu bhávibo ná bhár
Ajuta chande madhuránande
Tava váńii jena baye jái

On my birthday,[nb 2] in the stream of novelty,
Light of the new may I achieve.
Lord of Rhythm's skill in prosody,
Filled with new thought, I would receive.

What You'll grant, with two hands I will accept it;
What You'll say, in heart's core I will maintain it.
This Your life, to You alone I will give;
With Your name, let me get frantic.

The tender shoot has become leaf;
It has filled up with a reddish green.
With new power, new ability,
I want to get busy serving everybody.

No longer will I sing a song of hopelessness.
I will never deem existence as a burden.
In myriad rhythms, with sweet jubilation,
May I go on conveying Your message.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Technically, janmatithi (জন্মতিথি) refers to one's lunar birthday. But it is also loosely defined as just "birthday".
