Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script[nb 2] Translation

Jaya shiva svayambho pashupate
Ádi iishvar anádinátha dhúrjat́i
Sarvádhiisákśi medhátithe

Álokádágato'si triloke vasasi
Sarvebhyormádhviidháráḿ dadási
Ádideva sanátana sháshvata purátana
Namaste prabho shubhagate

Sarvaguńánvita guńátiita iishvara
Sarvatyágii tvaḿ gańa-adhiishvara
Kále akále asi sumadhure hasasi
Sarvalokambhara lokapate

Your victory, oh Shiva, the self-born, the beast-master,
The first ruler and ancient king bearing hair-locks matted,[nb 3]
Witness of every mind as intellect's most honored guest.

Come from the realm of light, You dwell in the three worlds;
You confer a sweet flow upon everyone.
Beginningless and endless, eternal God Absolute,
Obeisance to You, Lord, the auspicious haven.

Endowed with every quality, ruler beyond attributes,
Renunciant are You, chief of the multitude.
Sweetly You smile, You are here in good fortune and recession,
Upholding all humans, oh the earth's sovereign.

  2. ^ The Samskrta lyrics are given in Bengali script. For anyone who prefers, the Devanagari script for this song's lyrics may be seen here.
  3. ^ One name for Shiva is Dhúrjat́i. Dhúrjat́i is essentially a description of Shiva, based on the depiction of His hair, matted and with chignon on top of the head (pointing upward).[3]
