Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Jhariyá giyáche phulera pápaŕi
Shukháye giyáche kusumahár
Árta paráńe rikta paráge
Ájike kii gán gáibo ár

Mańipadmer ratnavediite
Esecho sabár tritápa harite
Ámár jiivane vipariit hate
Kena dile balo hetu táhár

Balo krpánidhi nidáruń vidhi
Kena nilo mor kusumita hrdi
Ámár jiivane kena niravadhi
Santápe jhare ashrudhár
Abhijog nahe anujog e je
Ekhani balo kárań ihár

The flower petals have all fallen,
And withered is the wreath.
In a woeful life, devoid of pollen,
What other song will I now sing?

On muladhara's[nb 2] bejeweled dais,
You've come to take the torments of all.[nb 3]
In my life befell the opposite;
Why You gave that, please tell the cause.

Merciful One, please explain such cruel fate;
My blossoming heart, why did it take?
Why, in my life endlessly,
Does a stream of tears fall from grief?
This complaint is no legal prosecution;
At once, kindly state the reason.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ One of many names for the múládhára cakra, the lowermost plexus according to tantra, is mańipadma.
  3. ^ The literal meaning of tritápa (ত্রিতাপ) is "three afflictions" (physical, psychic, and psychospiritual). At the múládhára cakra, four vrttis (propensities) are located: káma, artha, dharma, and mokśa. The first three signify yearning in the physical, psychic, and psychospiritual realms. The fourth signifies the salvation of the pure spiritual realm, where no torment or affliction is possible.
