Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Pháguneri parash diye
E kon rúpe tumi ele
Madhumáser sarasatáy
Sab jaŕatá guṋŕiye dile

Ájke chandamay dhará
Gandhamay je vasundhará
Vishvacitta svayambará
E kon doláy sabe dolále

Sure ráge man átmahárá
Pale palake pulake bhará
Báṋdhan bheuṋge bheuṋge páśáńkárá
Abhisáre cale tále tále

Having applied Phalgun's touch,
In what form did You come?
With the succulence of Madhumas,[nb 2]
You pulverized all inertia.

Today the world's abrim with purpose;
Filled with fragrance is the Earth...
Cosmic mind choosing her suitor,
In what cradle did You sway everyone?

In tones and tunes psyche's ecstatic;
Every moment it's filled with a thrill...
Bondage broken, broken the stone-prison,
Beat after beat, it goes to a lovers' tryst.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Madhumás (sweet month) is a nickname for Chaitra. In the Bengali calendar, the last two months of the year are Phalgun and Chaitra (the 11th and 12th months respectively). They run from approximately mid-February to mid-April. Of the six seasons recognized in India, these are the two months of spring.
