Jata ańuparamáńu
Táraká candra bhánu

Avasar ár náhi je tomár
Chanda jágáo ameya apár
Carańer áshe sabe káche áse
Kara joŕe natajánu

Tomáke ghiriyá jyotimaiṋjire
Niiháriká cháyápathe ghore phere
Aiṋjan áṋke udbhásá áṋkhe
Ambar niilatanu

Nrtyer dole udvel halo
Dhúrjat́i nádatanu

(তব) নৃত্যের তালে উত্তাল হলো
যত অণুপরমাণু
তারকা চন্দ্র ভানু

অবসর আর নাহি যে তোমার
ছন্দ জাগাও অমেয় অপার
চরণের আশে সবে কাছে আসে
কর জোড়ে নতজানু

তোমাকে ঘিরিয়া জ্যোতিমঞ্জীরে
নীহারিকা ছায়াপথে ঘোরে ফেরে
অঞ্জন আঁকে উদ্ভাসা আঁখে
অম্বর নীলতনু

নৃত্যের দোলে উদ্বেল হলো
ধূর্জটি নাদতনু

In Your dance beat, billows arose—
All of the atoms and molecules,
The stars, the sun, and the moon.

No further leisure would be Yours;
As endless, untold rhythms You stir.
Hoping for Your feet, all come near
With folded hands, on bended knees.

A halo bright is all around You;
In the Milky Way, nebulae go dark anew.
Within the mark of kohl aglow upon Your eyes,
Azure gets embodied in the sky.

Overflowing in the dance sway was
Music personified,[nb 2] Shiva Nataraj.[nb 3]

Notes

  2. ^ Shiva is known by many names. One of those names is Nádatanu (নাদতনু). Náda is the primordial sound, the omkara. And tanu signifies the embodiment of that. On occasion, Sarkar himself translated Nádatanu as "music personified", and so that translation is used here[3]
  3. ^ One of Shiva's many names is Nataraj (the lord of dance). Another name for Shiva is Dhúrjat́i (ধূর্জটি). Dhúrjat́i is essentially a description of Shiva, based on the depiction of His hair, matted and with chignon on the top of the head (pointing upward).[4]
