Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tomáre bhuliyá gechi taruvar
Tomár kśudra kusume bhuli nái
Tomáre dekhi ni mánasa sarovar
Tava srotadhárate snigdhatá pái

Kśudra kańa niiháriká tumi
Tomátei srśt́a e saptabhúmi
Kśudra bale je shúdre dekhi
Se moder diipádhár tái álo pái

Kśudra sparshágháte dávánal
Kśudra jalakańáy baŕavánal
Kśudra mane vyathá dile pare
Priiti cháŕá tár kona nirámay nái

Oh great Banyan Tree, I have kept forgetting Thee;
But as Your tiny blossom, I am not forgotten.
I saw You not within the pond of psyche;
Inside the riverstream, I find Your soothing sweetness.

I am just a tiny jot, and You are the nebula;
In You only is created these seven worlds.[nb 2]
The puny says that like a shudra I observe:
He is our lampstand; hence we get effulgence.

Conflagration resides in the spark that is slight;
In the tiny drop of water dwells a dragon-fire.[nb 3]
After pain is given to the minuscule mind,
There is no other cure except for His adoration.

  2. ^ In Tantric theory, the cosmic mind (more or less the universe) consists of seven realms or worlds: bhú (physical world), bhuvah (crude mental world), svah (subtle mental world), mahah (supra-mental world), janah (subliminal world), tapah (penultimate world), and satya (causal world).[3]
  3. ^ In reference to a mythological seahorse that spews out flames.
