Yoga Psychology is a book of 218 pages and 26 chapters preceded by a publisher's note. The book is a compilation of discourses on Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology given in different times and places by the philosopher and social reformer Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar[note 1] aka Shrii Shrii Anandamurti (1921–1990).[note 2] It has been translated into several languages.[2]
"Human existence or any other biological existence is goaded by the propensive propulsion of the psyche. Let me explain why the human body is a biological machine and goaded by propensities. The physical body is not yours. It belongs to another Entity who has placed the mind in this body, so now you think, “It is my body.” The mind has been authorized to use this body, so the mind is thinking, “It is my body.” The átman [unit consciousness] is watching, witnessing what the mind is thinking. If the átman stops watching, the mind will stop working. So what is the science by which the biological machine is being goaded?.."
"..the human structure is controlled by the glands and sub-glands, thus it is a biological machine. Under-secretion and over-secretion of the same gland will bring this machine under different types of impulses and defects. I want you all to acquire high proficiency in such capabilities through sádhaná [spiritual practices] and learn practically how to control this biological machine through the control of the glands and sub-glands."

As stated by the publisher's note on the book's preface[4]: "..psychology, for the author, is a developing science which is considered to be a part of Philosophy. Traditionally philosophy has included the branches of ontology, metaphysics, ethics and epistemology, but Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii has expanded the scope of philosophy to include psychology and spiritual cult (practices)."
In the book the science of yoga psychology, based on the traditions of yoga and tantra is explained and treated by the author. Shrii Shrii Anandamurti[note 3] claims the connection between glands, subglands, nerves and the traditional theory of cakras (or plexi, psycho–spiritual centers)[5] that are described in this theory on a new vision touching topics that traditionally belong to the domain of psychology and not only to the spiritual and intuitional science. On this point of view the researcher Richard W. Maxwell[6] quoted the book when attempting to detail the “concentration points” and the true locations of cakras which are considered to be within the CNS. The chapter "Glands and subglands" is also mentioned from the "International Association of Yoga Therapists" on the volume related with Chakra's[7].
The volume starts with the discourse "Food, Cells, Physical and Mental Development" given on February 14, 1970 in Ranchi in which the author explains the relationship between food and the cells of human body. In the same chapter Sarkar highlights the importance for human beings to pay attention to the qualities of the food they eat, that strongly help to have a balanced mind for the spiritual progress.
