Devotion is a discourse given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 1978 September 1 in Patna, India. This discourse is the 30th chapter of Ananda Vacanamrtam Part 1.[1]
Synopsis
What is then the most precious thing in human life? It is devotion. If one has gotten devotion, one has gotten everything, and nothing remains unrealized. Devotees have to serve the Lord.
In this discourse Anandamurti is explaining a shloka: Bhaktirbhagavato sevá, Bhaktih premasvarúpińii, Bhaktiránandarúpá ca, Bhaktih bhaktasya jiivanam. Bhakti means calling the Supreme with sincere love and devotion. Serving Bhagavan (He who possesses these qualities: áeshvarya, prátapa, yasha, shrii, jiṋána, and vaerágya) means serving His creation. Anandamurti then explains those six qualities. For example, the term yasha means the entity who polarizes humanity into moral versus immoral people. Per the shloka, Anandamurti confirms the assertion that devotion is the essence of life for a devotee.[1]
