Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Maner gopál manete hesecho
Man práń keŕe niyecho
Dhyáneri dhyeya gúńe ameya
Jiivke bhálabesecho

Raiṋjitádhare báṋsharii bájáye
Práń jamunáy ujáne baháye
Srśt́i sthiti laye nácáye
Madhur liiláy metecho

Mana májhe tumi phalgudhárá
Báhir vishve ápanahárá
Vrndávaner vane vane bhará
Mádhurii viláye diyecho

Mental Gopal, in the mind You have smiled;
Of mind and heart You have deprived.
Fit object of my reverie, with traits countless,
A living being You have prized.

With lower lip dyed, having played a pipe of reed,
Goading heart's Jamuna to flow upstream,
Generation, Operation, and Destruction making shimmy,
By delicious Game You've galvanized.

Inside the mind You are the undercurrent,[nb 2]
In external world losing Self.
Diffused in Vrndavan's many forests,
Sweetness You've consigned.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Much of the year the Phalgu River flows mostly or entirely hidden beneath its sandy bed. The river's full form only becomes visible with the monsoon floods. Hence, the flow of Phalgu is taken figuratively to mean an undercurrent of emotion.
