Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Táńd́av náce nececho[nb 2]
He bhaerav
Kálbhaerav kálbhaerav
Dhúrjat́i jat́á khulecho
Vilále vaebhav

Chande tále uttálete
Shánta dhará ut́hlo mete
Jválámukhiir uttápete
Náclo ańu sab

Nágpásheri bandhanete
Baddha járá chilo cite
Táder báṋdhan khule dite
Jáglo viśáń rav

O Lord Shiva, Bhaerava,
Frightening One,
You are ever engrossed
in Your rhythmic Ta’nd’ava dance.
You have spread out Your matted hair,
and dissipated Your wealth to all.
By severity of rhythm
and vigorous jumping beats
of Your dance, the tranquil earth
became frenzied.
Due to high temperature of volcano,
all the atoms began dancing.
Those whose minds were bound
by serpentine noose,
to shatter their bondages,
You have blown Your long horn, vis’a’n’.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ In later publications this word is given as metecho. However, in all of the earliest Bangla source this last word is nececho. Here, the original language is preferred.
