Somebody came and told,
Oh Who came and left ere long;
would you not come this time
Aren't You showing up this time?
to remove the darkness
Ridding gloom, will You bring a wide,
and bring unlimited effulgence
Lustrous splendor unto my domicile?
of light in my home.

i go on calling in darkness,
I have kept calling out in darkness;
crying profusely in isolated house.
Alone in house, so much have I wept.
that crying of mine
That weeping mine, those tears from eyes,
and tears from the eyes,
Perhaps they soaked into Your mind?
has moistened your mind, i understand.

all alone is not pleasing,
It feels not good being so lonesome;
coming close, pour grace.
Coming close, mercy do afford.
all my good and bad,
Whatever be my light, my ebon,
would become one under your lamp.
With Your lamp they will combine.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ke je elo bale gelo
Tumi ná ki áscho ebár
Sariye áṋdhár ánbe apár
Álor dyuti ghare ámár

Áṋdháre d́eke calechi
Eká ghare kata keṋdechi
Se kánná mor se áṋkhi lor
Man bhejálo bujhi tomár

Eká eká láge ná bhálo
Káche ese krpá d́hálo
Ámár jata álo kálo
Tomár diipe habe ekákár

Oh Who came and left ere long;
Aren't You showing up this time?
Ridding gloom, will You bring a wide,
Lustrous splendor unto my domicile?

I have kept calling out in darkness;
Alone in house, so much have I wept.
That weeping mine, those tears from eyes,
Perhaps they soaked into Your mind?

It feels not good being so lonesome;
Coming close, mercy do afford.
Whatever be my light, my ebon,
With Your lamp they will combine.
