flying through the vast blue sky,
All the news from afar,
my feathers inscribed with memories
Through me it's delivered,
of countless remote landscapes
Inscribed on my feathers.

On dreamy moonlit nights,
On a dreamy night by the moon's light,
I fly into the dark blue of the sky.
I ascend into blue sky.
In the undulating breeze,
When flowers laugh in a heavy wind,
flowers smile,
With their smile, I make connection.
as i fill them with joy.
Never do I lose my way,
For with me my Lord does remain,
A bosom friend in storms of dust and rain.

I never lose my path.
Across the heavens drifts a brilliant beauty;
My lord is ever
In that lightstream I go sailing.
my companion, through storms and typhoons.
Eyelids dark, on my flightpath there is no sleep;

Toward my nest I gaze continuously.
The magnificent arc of the sky
The One with Whom I am enamored,
is graced with a flow of effulgent beauty -
It is He, Who is my co-traveler;
in that stream i keep gliding onwards.
Unaccompanied do I remain never.

For my eyes, touched with this resplendence,
there is no sleep.
I keep heading towards my destination,
soaring through the sky.

The one in whose love i am ever-intoxicated,
accompanies me always.
I am never alone.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

(Ámi) Dúr niilimár baláká
Sudúrer váńii jata
Mor májhe otaprota
Pátáy pátáy lekhá

Svapnila nishiithe cáṋder álor sáthe
Niilákáshe uŕiyá beŕái
Mandrila vátáse phúlerá jakhan háse
Se hásite jog dite jái (ámi)
Hárái ná path kabhu
Sáthe tháke mor prabhu
Áṋdhi tupháneri sakhá

Maiṋjula mahákáshe álor lávańi bháse
Tári srote ámi bhese jái
Aiṋjula áṋkhipáte niṋd náhi nabhopathe
Niiŕ páne satata tákái
Jáke niye mátámáti
Se je sadá mor sáthii
Kakhano tháki ná eká

I'm a swan[nb 2] of yon azure;
All the news from afar,
Through me it's delivered,
Inscribed on my feathers.

On a dreamy night by the moon's light,
I ascend into blue sky.
When flowers laugh in a heavy wind,
With their smile, I make connection.
Never do I lose my way,
For with me my Lord does remain,
A bosom friend in storms of dust and rain.

Across the heavens drifts a brilliant beauty;
In that lightstream I go sailing.
Eyelids dark, on my flightpath there is no sleep;
Toward my nest I gaze continuously.
The One with Whom I am enamored,
It is He, Who is my co-traveler;
Unaccompanied do I remain never.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ According to the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary, baláká (বলাকা) is a female of "a kind of small goose capable of flying high". It could also mean "a flight of geese". However, the word has been loosely translated as "stork" or "swan". And, interestingly, the current logo of Biman Bangladesh Airlines is a stylized white baláká in flight within a red circle.
