Anandamurti starts the discourse by saying that there are different observations regarding the departed and they come under the name shráddhá. Anandamurti then explains that practices such as offering food and clothing to the deceased or repeating a special prayer that will guard the position of the dead, are nothing but exploitation of people of superstitious, underdeveloped minds. Anandamurti goes on explaining that our social responsibilities towards a person terminate when they are no longer with us. The only thing we can do is ask [[Parama Purusa]] to take care of them.
