Lakshmi Narayan Sarkar was a renowned Homepathic physician and Aabharani Devi was a housewife. As Prabhat Ranjan was born in dawn, initially he was named Arun. When he became four years old, he was given a new name "Prabhat Ranjan". This renaming had a background. Chittaranjan Das, a noted Indian freedom fighter and politician died on 16 June 1925, and on the same a son was born to Lakshmi Narayan Sarkar's younger brother Nirmal Chandra Sarkar. As a homage to Chittaranjan Das, Nirmal Chandra decided to name the new-born "Chittaranjan". Simultaneously Arun was renamed to Prabhat Ranjan. Later the middle name "Ranjan" was added to Lakshmi Narayan Sarkar's all son's names.
