Not long after the creation of [[Sarkarverse]], Abhidevananda began posting articles on Prabhat Samgiita. And not long after that, Abhidevananda realized that the existing translations of Prabhat Samgiita required more work than the mere brushing up of the English. Thus, in 2014, Abhidevananda took up a 17-year project to retranslate all of the 5,018 songs. The projected completion of the project, at a rate of roughly one song per day, is for sometime in 2031. | |||
As Abhidevananda's proficiency in Bengali improved, the translation work became more and more intense. Also the focus shifted gradually from an accurate line-by-line prosaic translation to an accurate and poetic, line-by-line translation. So any time saved in translation from Bengali to English was absorbed (and increased) with the effort to find more appealing English expression. | |||
At first, all of the translation work was published only on Sarkarverse. The first Prabhat Samgiita book resulting from this translation work was published in 2016 May 21. That was a compilation of the first 500 songs. That book was available for a few months. Now it is no longer available. Instead, that book was replaced with Volumes 1-5 in the current series. The 50th and final volume of the series, Songs 4900-5018, is expected to be published sometime in 2031. | |||
