O lord,
All my life, for the sake of You only
for you, whole of my life, i have wandered about,
I have roamed about; don't You know it?
do not you know that?
Shaking off drowsiness, through my tears
Forgetting drowsiness, with tearful eyes,
I've kept calling; can't You hear it?
I continued to call you, you could not hear.

I searched you in forest lanes,
Yourself I have sought in an arbor's vista;
I wanted you in desert mirage,
Yourself I have looked for in a desert's mirage.
I looked for you in the glories of pilgrim places.
For You I have searched at grandeur of [[:wikipedia:Tirtha (Hinduism)|tiirtha]];
You did not see or understand.
Don't You see, don't You understand it?

Only one quality in you i could recognise.
In You I've recognized just one quality:
Even after hearing, you pretend not to listen.
You can hear, yet You stay unhearing;
You know, still stay unaware.
You can know, yet You stay unknowing.
What a delusion, tell me.
Please do explain to me this deceit, what it is!

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tomári tare jiivana bhare
Ghure beŕiyechi tumi jáno ná
Áṋkhira jale tandrá bhule
D́eke gechi tumi shunte páo ná

Tomáke khuṋjechi ámi vanaviithiikáy
Tomáre ceyechi ámi marura máyáy
Tomáre khuṋjechi tiirthamahimáy
Tumi dekho ná tumi bojho ná

Tomáre cinechi ámi ekt́i guńe
Shunite páo tabu tháko ná shune
Jánite páro tabu tháko ná jene
E kii chalaná more balo ná

All my life, for the sake of You only
I have roamed about; don't You know it?
Shaking off drowsiness, through my tears
I've kept calling; can't You hear it?

Yourself I have sought in an arbor's vista;
Yourself I have looked for in a desert's mirage.
For You I have searched at grandeur of tiirtha;
Don't You see, don't You understand it?

In You I've recognized just one quality:
You can hear, yet You stay unhearing;
You can know, yet You stay unknowing.
Please do explain to me this deceit, what it is!
