Notes
- ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
- ^ Metaphorically speaking, earth, heaven, and hell.
- ^ There are four recognized vedas. Some scholars consider the "three vedas" to be the Rk (ঋক্), Sáma (সাম), and Yajuh (যজুঃ) vedas. In their opinion, the Atharva (অথর্ব) veda is a later and less significant addition. However, Sarkar accords greater importance to the Atharva veda. According to Sarkar, the Sáma veda is a late compilation of the musical portions or hymns from the other three vedas. Hence, for Sarkar, the three main vedas are the Rk, Yajuh, and Atharva vedas.
