Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ajáná pathik alakár kathá
Shońáo bárek káche ese
Niilábhrer niiháriká kańá
Kon ajánáy jáy bhese

Jáhá dekhe tháki táhái ki t́hik
Jáhá náhi dekhi sabi ki aliik
Kont́á satyi kont́á mithye
Ki chilo atiite geche khase[nb 2]

Shástre já áche apaoruśeya
Shástre já nái táhái ki heya
Múl prashner múl uttar
Diye jáo manete base

O unknown traveler,
coming to me at least once,
please explain the realities of the divine world.

To which unknown destination
do the nebulae and galaxies of the blue sky float?

Is what i observe with the senses perfect reality?
Is whatever i do not perceive all untrue?

Which is false and which is true?
What was once existing but disappeared in the past?
Whatever is present in the scriptures,
is only that authentic?
Whatever is not included in the scriptures,
is this to be ignored?

Staying in my mind,
please offer basic answers to these fundamental questions.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ In all versions earlier than the latest Bengali edition,[1] the word bhese appears instead of khase. So we also hear bhese in the audio rendition. However, khase makes more sense and is hence preferred here.
