Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

(Ámár) Calár pathe áṋdhára ráte
Pradiip háte tumi ke go ele
(Tomáy) Jáni ná cini ná káche ele
Paráń d́hele bhála básile

Andhakáre patha cini ná
Ápan balte sauṋge keu chila ná
Ajáná suhrdere d́eke gechi (ámi)
D́ákár mantra káńe dile d́hele (tumi)

Calechi calár jhoṋke metechi pather preme
Lakśyavihiinbháve chut́e gechi náhi theme
Nije ele álo dekhále (tumi)
Rju path dhare calite balile (more)

O lord,
who are you who came
with a lamp in hand
to show me the path to travel on
in this dark night?

I do not know nor recognise you,
yet, you came near me
and loved me irresistibly.

In the dark, I could not recognise the path.
No one was with me to call my own.

I continued calling an unknown friend,
when you poured into my ear
the proper name (mantra)
to address and call you.

I had been moving with previous momentum,
intoxicated with attachment to the path,
aimlessly rushing about without pause.
You came and showed to me the proper path,
and told to move on a straight path.
