O lord,
I am in search of Thee on mountain and in forest;
I am in search of you.
I've gone looking, but You don't submit.
In holy sites, along the way, or in the wilderness,
Nowhere do I get a glimpse.

I went to my garden to look for you
Careening on a swing between hope and hopelessness,
but you did not let yourself be caught.
My mind has gone off racing in many a strange realm.
By cultivating knowledge in debates and conferences,
Not one thing have I accomplished.

Oscillating in the swing of hope and dispair,
On the ocean, in its deeps, in jungles, and in gardens,
my mind rushes onto innumerable unknown worlds.
In so many beautiful expanses of flowers...

My search I have widened to the wind and to the heavens,
From wisdom talks
But psyche's depths I don't seek within.
and discussions on philosophy,
nothing was ever gained.

I searched you
in the depths of the sea,
in gardens and forests,
in the various beautiful forms of flowers,
in the sky and in the air...
but i did not search you
in the depth of my mind.
