O lord,
You came on a dark night;
You came in the dark night
A lantern You did light.
and kindled my lamp.
On rainy night, You complied;
Good fortune You assigned.

You arrived on a cloudy night.
When at my home was there
You came into my fold,
Abundant light overflowing,
bestowing auspiciousness.
Brightness was glittering...
You had come but did not reply.

When my home was illuminated
Now am I deprived of all;
with plenty of light,
On my own I've built a stone-prison.
with a shining luster,
Tears falling, I have called;
You came straight away
Only on hearing, at my hut
without even announcing yourself.
Rapidly You arrived.

Today, i had lost everything,
and created my own stone prison.
I called you with tearfilled eyes.
Hearing my call,
You immediately came to my hut.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Áṋdhár nishiithe tumi ele
Diip jvele dile
Bádal ráte dhará dile
Svasti ánile

Jabe mor ghare chilo
Álo prácurjya ucchala
Jaolus chilo jhalomala
Sáŕá dáo ni esechile

Ájke ámi sarvahárá
Racechi nijei shilá kárá
D́ekechi jale áṋkhi jhará
Shuńei kut́ire mor
Cale ele

You came on a dark night;
A lantern You did light.
On rainy night, You complied;
Good fortune You assigned.

When at my home was there
Abundant light overflowing,
Brightness was glittering...
You had come but did not reply.

Now am I deprived of all;
On my own I've built a stone-prison.
Tears falling, I have called;
Only on hearing, at my hut
Rapidly You arrived.
