O symbol of effulgence,
You arrived from across the gloomy sea;
You came,
Of light You are the guarantee.
crossing the ocean of darkness,
You removed each bit of darkness;
removing all darkness totally,
On this earth for benefit, You are the Master.
to benefit the world.

Great sages and saints,
Doing great austerities age after age,
cannot attain you,
Sages and saints, You they could not embrace.
even after ages of arduous penance.
But with touch of a little grace,
Into the heart of all, oh Lord, You came.

O lord,
When light appears, then dark will vanish;
You came into all hearts.
When life comes, then death will perish.

With this sport the world does pitch;
When light comes,
There can never be an end to it.
darkness is removed.
When life comes,
death dies.

This divinely illusory game,
with which you swing the world,
never ends.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Áṋdhár ságar pár haye ele
Áloker tumi pratibhu
Kálo jáhá kichu saráiyá dile
Bhálor bhuloke tumi prabhu

Juga juga dhare tapasyá kare
Muni rśiráo páre ni dharite
Krpákańár parashe cakite
Sabár hrdaye ele vibhu

Álok ásile áṋdhár saribe
Jiivan ásile marań maribe
E liilákheláy vishva doláy
Sheś náhi hate páre kabhu

You arrived from across the gloomy sea;
Of light You are the guarantee.
You removed each bit of darkness;
On this earth for benefit, You are the Master.

Doing great austerities age after age,
Sages and saints, You they could not embrace.
But with touch of a little grace,
Into the heart of all, oh Lord, You came.

When light appears, then dark will vanish;
When life comes, then death will perish.
With this sport the world does pitch;
There can never be an end to it.
