O lord, where were you in formless state
Formless, where had You been?
and when did you come within form and name?
When You came down, in form You appeared.
Intoxicating the world,
By song, the world You frenzied;
you brought rhythm in the sound.
In sound a cadence You did bring.
there was no heat of summer,

no rain, no winter or wet dews.
Neither had there been a summer nor a monsoon;
there was no one to convey confidence,
There had been no autumn with succulent dew.
as You were revolving in an arena beyond time.
There had been no one to speak to, no refuge;
whether in autumn, spring or cold,
Time-transcending, You had been asleep.
there was no awakening of waves in the core.

there was no body to play the viin’a’
Prewinter, winter, and spring, some person
by touch of hand with joy.
Was not rousing waves at the heart's core.
Anyone, by touch of hand happily,
Wasn't playing a [[:wikipedia:Veena|lute]] with tune and beat.

Arup kothay chile is the 2450th song of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's Prabhat Samgiita.[1][2]

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Arup kotháy chile
Kabe náme ele tumi rúpe ele
Giite jagate mátále
Dhvanite chanda ánile

Chilo ná nidágh chilo ná varaśá
Chilo ná sharat shishire sarasá
Chilo náko keu shonáte bharasá
Kálátiite ghume chile

Hemanta shiit vasanta keu
Marma májháre jágáto ná d́heu
Kehai haraśe karera parashe
Bájáto ná viińá sure tále

Formless, where had You been?
When You came down, in form You appeared.
By song, the world You frenzied;
In sound a cadence You did bring.

Neither had there been a summer nor a monsoon;
There had been no autumn with succulent dew.
There had been no one to speak to, no refuge;
Time-transcending, You had been asleep.

Prewinter, winter, and spring, some person
Was not rousing waves at the heart's core.
Anyone, by touch of hand happily,
Wasn't playing a lute with tune and beat.
