Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Candanavarńá
Se priiti je melechilo pákhá
Mádhurii aparńá
Tabuo se geche eká eká

Asiima ákáshe jethá cái
Se baláká dekhite ná pái
Siimáhárá rúpe bhará se je
Mandrita madhurase mákhá

Se atiite ájo kay kathá
Bhávátiita tári vyákulatá
Alakár se svarńalatá
Juktite náhi jáy d́háká

Sandalwood-painted
Is the love that had spread wing.
A sweetness naked,
And yet gone off alone has she.

Where I gaze in the boundless heavens,
That crane I just fail to see.
She is limitless and filled with beauty,
Coated with resounding sweetness.

Even now that one past tells a tale,
Her eagerness, beyond imagination.
She is angelic, that love-in-a-puff;[nb 2]
With reason she does not get veiled.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Literally, svarńalatá means "golden creeper". However, this is a Bengali name for one specific plant, the Cardiospermum halicacabum, also known as love in a puff. Another name for the same plant in both Samskrta and Bengali is jyotiśmatii, also meaning bright or lustrous.
