Why are you standing with head bowed down,
Why are you standing erect, but head you've kept bent?
with what load of agony? tell me.
Tell me who is He that burdens you with distress,
Who has given you sorrow, even after hearing?
Who, after hearing you, has then given sadness,
Who is that merciless, who has not understood you?
Who did not understand you, that person hardhearted!

Both your eyes are covered with head hair,
The two eyes have gone hidden by a tress;
lying robbed within centre of lotus.
A tender bud, at core, plundered has she fallen.
Tell me this agony and lamentation.
This your same affliction, this your lament,
In what way can it be removed?
How can it be cast away, kindly do tell.

I understand, who that dear is; accept my words.
As I surmise Who is your Dear, pay heed to my words:
That same merciless, binds all with tears of eyes
That Heartless One, through tears all people He secures
through unknown, unintelligible thread of love.
By His strings of love, past imagination, never understood.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Kena dáṋŕiye ácho shir nata rekhecho
Kon se vyathár bháre balo ámáre
Ke duhkh diyeche kathá shuńiyeche
Ke se nit́hur bojhe ni tomáre

Alake d́hákiyá geche áṋkhi dut́i
Komal koraka májhe paŕeche lut́i
Tava ei vedanár ei háhákár
Bale dáo kibháve sarite páre

Bujhi ke tava priya mor kathá mánio
Se nit́hur áṋkhilore báṋdhe sabáre
Tár abodhya bhávátiita priitid́ore

Why are you standing erect, but head you've kept bent?
Tell me who is He that burdens you with distress,
Who, after hearing you, has then given sadness,
Who did not understand you, that person hardhearted!

The two eyes have gone hidden by a tress;
A tender bud, at core, plundered has she fallen.
This your same affliction, this your lament,
How can it be cast away, kindly do tell.

As I surmise Who is your Dear, pay heed to my words:
That Heartless One, through tears all people He secures
By His strings of love, past imagination, never understood.
