Why have You pained me so?
Why have You pained me so?

The eastern horizon is ablaze with crimson rays.
The eastern sky was wrapped in crimson,
The breeze captured the spirit of colour and love
And the wind was smeared with love.
And my love i wove into a garland in my heart
Entwining color and affection,
Woven was my heart's devotion.

A garland drenched with tears.
A garland drenched with tears.
Now the petals have dropped,
Now the petals have dropped,
One by one, gently down.
One by one, gently down.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Phúlera málát́i
Tomári lágiyá gáṋthá
Tumi parile ná
Ámáre dile kena vyathá

Púrvákásh chilo aruń rauṋete d́háká
Vátás takhan chilo bhálabásáte mákhá
Rauṋ ár bhálabásá ek sáthe misháiyá
Gáṋthá chilo hiyára mamatá

Dekho sei málá mor ashrute bhije geche
Phúler pápŕiguli dhiire dhiire jhare geche
Tumi ásile ná dekhá karile ná
Bujhile ná mor vyákulatá

This garland of flowers
Was strung for You alone.
You did not put it on;
Why have You pained me so?

The eastern sky was wrapped in crimson,
And the wind was smeared with love.
Entwining color and affection,
Woven was my heart's devotion.

A garland drenched with tears.
Now the petals have dropped,
One by one, gently down.
You didn't come.
You didn't see me.
You didn't try to understand
The deepest yearnings of my heart.
