The Purodha Pramukha (chief purodha, Bengali: পুরোধা প্রমুখ) is the highest authority within Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha.[1]

Role of the Purodha Pramukha

The Purodha Pramukha is the Chairperson of the Purodha Board and the ex officio President of the Central Committee (also referred to as the President of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha).[2]

Method of appointment and tenure of office

The Purodha Pramukha is elected to the post by the body of purodhas. The Purodha Pramukha holds the post for life, but s/he may resign for reasons of ill health.[2]

History

The first Purodha Pramukha was Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar (Shrii Shrii Anandamurti), who also held and still holds the unique distinction of being the Marga Guru (Guru of Ananda Marga). On his demise, the next Purodha Pramukha was Ac. Shraddhananda Avadhuta, who held the post from 1990 to 2008, when he passed away. The current Purodha Pramukha is Ac. Vishvadevananda Avadhuta, who has held the post since 2008.
