I never learned to give; I practiced only taking.
I never learned to give; I practiced only taking.

You filled my life with flowers,
With flowers, fruits, forms, and flavors,
Fruits, beauty and taste.
You gave my life abundance.
You blessed me with intellect, radiance and sweetness.
The light of reason and exquisite sweetness,
You gave me more than I deserved.
With inordinate favor to me You gave.
Now, please grant me only this much:
Now give me only the power and ability
The right and strength to hold You in my heart.
That I may ever hold You in my heart.

O my Companion in pain, all the sweetness of my life,
O my Companion in pain, all the sweetness of my life,

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Tomár e asiima apár bhálabásár
Vinimaye háy kii bá diyechi
Duháte niyechi sab
Dite shikhi ni nite shikhechi

Phúle phale rúpe rase
Práńke ámár diyecho bhare
Buddhidiipti madhuratá
Cáoyáro beshii diyecho more
Shudhu dáo balár adhikára
Tomáre ámár hrdaye dharechi

Paráńer sakala madhu duhkhera baṋdhu
Tomáte ámi ujáŕi d́helechi

For Your profound and limitless love,
What have I offered in exchange?
With both hands, I accepted everything.
I never learned to give; I practiced only taking.

With flowers, fruits, forms, and flavors,
You gave my life abundance.
The light of reason and exquisite sweetness,
With inordinate favor to me You gave.
Now give me only the power and ability
That I may ever hold You in my heart.

O my Companion in pain, all the sweetness of my life,
I offer unto You in abundance.
