Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

(Tumi) Balo kii bá cáo
Múk mukhe ceye theke
Kena liilá kare jáo

Khoṋje tomár tiirthe gechi
Shástra carcá d́her karechi
Nyás práńáyám kare gechi
Kena náhi tákáo

Práńer áloy arghya diye
Manovane phul sájiye
Priiticandane mákhiye
Nijere dii tumi náo

Tell me what more is Your will.
Having seen my dumbstruck face,
Why do You keep on playing games?

To holy sites I've gone in search of Thee;
Also I've studied scripture aplenty.
I've practiced pranayam and nyas rites;[nb 2]
So why do You not look at me?

Paying homage with the lamplight of my life,
Decked with blooms from the garden of my mind,
Smeared with the sandalpaste of devotion[nb 3]
Myself I am offering; please take me.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Pranayama and nyasa are yogic techniques. The former entails the control of respiration, and the latter entails the touching of various body parts that have been associated with mantra.
  3. ^ All of the imagery in these lines is of Hindu ritualistic worship, perhaps the arati ceremony. However, the external forms have been elevated to the metaphysical plane.
