Why does it act like that?
Why does it act like that?
Again and again, when time stands still,
Again and again, when time stands still,
My soul yearns for the unknown.
My soul longs for the unknown.

Repeatedly
Greatly afflicted, tears flowing,
For that unknown entity.
My mind yearns to realize Thee.

I move heaven and earth
In my search for you.
O where have you hidden yourself?

I probe the seven spheres.
My sorrowful mind, entrenched in its fears,
Strives only to realise you.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Udásii hiyáte kájalá ráte
Kena je eman kare
Stabdha prahare báre báre
Práń cáhe ajánáre

Kotháy ácho tumi lukáye ácho tumi
Khuṋjiyá beŕái saptabhúmi
Vedanáte bhará ashrujhará
Man pete cáy tomáre

Álora párávár áṋdhára pákhár
Tanna tanna kari khuṋji je cáridhára
Rayecho tumi bujhi go ámi
Dharite náhi pári manane ámár

Práńera priyatama antaratama
Lukocuri khelá kena sáthe mama
Sumukhe ásiyá dáṋŕáo hásiyá
Vyathára ságarpáre

On pitch-dark nights, listless is my heart;
Why does it act like that?
Again and again, when time stands still,
My soul longs for the unknown.

Where are You; are You in hiding?
Seeking within the seven worlds,[nb 2],
Greatly afflicted, tears flowing,
My mind yearns to realize Thee.
