Vrtha janama gamayalun is the 340th song of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's Prabhat Samgiita.[1] The language of the first verse of this song is uncertain. It might be Braj Bhasha, a Hindi offshoot spoken in the broad area of India known as Braj or Vrajabhumi. It might be a mixture of Bhojpuri and Bengali. Perhaps most likely, it is either the Brajavali dialect of Assamese or Brajabuli, both having a strong Maithili composition.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Vrthá janama gamáyaluṋ
Hena prabhu ná bhajalúṋ
Khoyáaluṋ soha guńanidhi

Hamára karama manda
Ná milala eka bunda
Premasindhurasaka avadhi

Janam ámár vrthái gelo
Prabhur seváy náhi elo
Háter káche peyeo táre
Práńer májhe nilám náko
Hiyáy táke nilám náko

Karama dośe e sab halo
Háter nidhi cale gelo
Táhár káje elám ná go
Karama shuci karibo go
Áj theke káje lágibo go

Don't pass your life in vain;
Don't fail to worship the Lord.
Seek out the fount of all virtue.

My actions were harmful,
Not washed with even a drop
From the compassionate ocean of love.

O shame! i have lived my life in vain,
I neglected to serve my beloved lord.
He came within my grasp
And yet
I could not attain him,
I could not contain him
Within my fickle heart's breath.

Cruel fate has meted me out this pitiful lot.
Within my grasp he came
And yet
That supreme treasure
I could not attain,
I could not devote myself to him.

Today i will start anew.
Today i will pledge a vow
To honour him.

Today, i will dedicate my all
To follow him
To serve him
To know him.
