(Ele náko tumi) Kaile ná kathá
Vyartha halo ámár ghat́er sahakár
Vyartha halo jata sádher málá gáṋthá

Sandhyáloke pákhi niiŕer páne chot́e
Sandhyáráge kumud cáṋdke dekhe phot́e
Ámár e sandhyáy bojho maner vyathá

Áṋdhár d́háká ravi nei se púrvácale
Úśár aruń rekhá jáyni kichui bhule
Shuncho tumi jakhan bojho vyákulatá

আমি ছিলুম বসে' তোমারই আশে
(এলে নাকো তুমি) কইলে না কথা
ব্যর্থ হলো আমার ঘটের সহকার
ব্যর্থ হলো যত সাধের মালা গাঁথা

সন্ধ্যালোকে পাখী নীড়ের ছোটে
সন্ধ্যারাগে কুমুদ চাঁদকে দেখে' ফোটে
আমার এ সন্ধ্যায় বোঝ মনের ব্যথা

আঁধার-ঢাকা রবি নেই সে পূর্বাচলে
ঊষার অরুণ রেখা যায়নি কিছুই ভুলে'
শুনছো তুমি যখন বোঝ ব্যাকুলতা

I'd been waiting in just Your anticipation;
You did not arrive, not a word did You speak;
Futile was my water-pot's mango leaves;
Vain became all garlands strung of longing.

Toward a cozy nest at glow of dusk the bird speeds;
Seeing the moon, a lily rises neath twilight's reddish gleam.
On this my evening, You fathom the mind's affliction.

Darkness-wrapped the sun, at eastern mountain[nb 2] it's not there;
But the dawn's crimson streak, forgetting aught did not leave.
As You are listening, You understand anxious confusion.
