Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ogo prabhu tomár dekhi e kii liilá
Liilár áŕále lukiye ácho ekelá

Dile ráter áṋdhár dile tárár melá
Dile cáṋder hási hiyá kare utalá

Dáruń nidághete dile dahan jválá
Dile belá juṋiyer suvás dile mála

Dile káṋt́á bhará kánan kaśt́e calá
Táte goláp phút́iye dile sakál belá

Tumi eklá kii kare karo eta khelá

Oh Lord, while we observe Your stunning play,
Alone behind its screen, You lie in wait.

You gave the dark of night and its carnival of stars;
You gave the moon's smile that made restive our hearts.

You gave severe summers and a heat that burns;
You gave juhi jasmine[nb 2] and its fragrant garlands.

You gave thorn-filled gardens, hard to perambulate;
And, in them, You made the rose blossom at daybreak.

On Your own, how do You create so many games?

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ Juhi (Jasminum molle) is not only remarkable in that it blossoms during the day but also in that it blossoms most profusely during the hot summer months.
