Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Áshá áshá kare[nb 2]
Ket́e gelo mor e jiivan
Tathápi kona áshári
Náhi halo sampúrań

Áshá chilo nabhah pare
Ravi shashii tárá ghire
Bhese jábo bháver ghore
Bhule jaŕatári báṋdhan

Áshá chilo kaibe kathá
Bujhe ámár vyákulatá
Geṋthe jata marma vyathá
Dobo málá maner matan

Hoping and hoping
Slipped away this my life.
Nonetheless, my any hope
Did not become realized.

Upon the heavens a hope had been,
Sun, moon, and stars encompassing.
By thought's illusion I'll go floating,
Spurning my inertial ties.

A hope had been that You will state:
Understood is my great angst.
Strung is all of my heartache;
Garland will I give per mind's desire.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ There is a discrepancy between the earliest and latest Bangla text regarding the first word (Áshá versus Ásár), but the later text is almost certainly in error.
