On this sweet moonlight,
Neath this sweet moonlight, with a lamp floats on
the light goes on floating
The sky and earth united.
together on earth and sky.
Close by will You arrive, yield You will,
O Lord, would You come close
Like a gentle breeze on this night sweet scented?
and come into fold this night

fragrant with sandal breeze?
I am waiting and watching path for many ages,
I am sitting day and night
With hope in breast, day and night alert.
since ages after ages,
You did not appear, hope was unrequited;
looking at the path, with hope.
What use this wreath of [https://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Malati.html malati] threaded?
You did not come and

did not fulfill the expectation.
You know the heart's secrets, don't be obstinate;
What is the result of my threading
Being sympathetic, don't make [[:wikipedia:Lila (Hinduism)|liila]].
the garland of malatii flowers?
Having entered core of heart, with open eyes laugh;
You know about my mind,
No one's injury is therein.
do not pretend to be ignorant.
Knowing the pain of this afflicted,
do not play liila, the illusive game.
Sitting in the core of the mind,
smile opening the eyes.
There is no harm in doing that.

Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

E madhu jyotsnáy áloy bhese jáy
Ákásh vasudhá ek sáthe
Tumi ki dhará debe nikat́e ásibe
Malay váte e surabhita ráte

Patha ceye base áchi juge juge
Áshá niye buke diváráti jege
Tumi náhi ele áshá ná purále
Kii phal e málatii málá geṋthe

Maner kathá jáno abujh hayo náko
Vyathiir vyathá jene liilá karo náko
Marma májhe ese áṋkhi mele háso
Kona kśati káro nei táte

Neath this sweet moonlight, with a lamp floats on
The sky and earth united.
Close by will You arrive, yield You will,
Like a gentle breeze on this night sweet scented?

I am waiting and watching path for many ages,
With hope in breast, day and night alert.
You did not appear, hope was unrequited;
What use this wreath of malati threaded?

You know the heart's secrets, don't be obstinate;
Being sympathetic, don't make liila.
Having entered core of heart, with open eyes laugh;
No one's injury is therein.
