Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ele bujhi áji shyámaráy
Báṋsharii káne shoná jáy

Path ceye base áchi mánas jamuná tiire
Kata kii je áse jáy keha náhi cáy phire
Eklá ásiyáchi eklá raye gechi
Cirasáthii tumi dúre háy

Ár ki bahibe ná ujáne jamuná
Púrńa karibe ná priitir eśańá
Dúre rákhiyácho áro kii bhávitecho
Liilá karo álo cháyáy

Having heard the sound of flute,
i thought that the lord, krs’n’a,
Shya’m ra’y, has come.
i am waiting, looking for him,
sitting on the bank of mental river yamuna’,
Numerous people came and went;
many did not want to return. i came alone,
and remained alone, alas,
the ever companion, you remained away.
will not the river Yamuna’ flow reverse any more,
will it not fulfill my earnest desire of love?
o lord, You have kept me away,
what else do you think,
performing the divine play, liila’
having light and shade.
